I believe an artist is someone who can see the potential in mistakes, not someone who does everything perfectly the first time! Anyway I think it’s really terrific, especially the energy in the outlines. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thanks very much; I’m glad you like it as it is.
I think it’s true of most artists that we’re our own worst critics. "

Do you make a sketch first and break it into different colors? I want to learn your technique- this lion looks awesome. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thanks Alyssa! I usually have a clear idea of just how I want the image to look, then draw it lightly on the back of the colored paper I’m using (so that when I cut it out and glue it down, it’s actually a reverse of what I drew). For this one I did the lion’s body first, then used that as a template to get the shape of the mane, tail tuft, and wings right. Then I used those items as the template to get the shapes of the darker blue detail pieces right (all drawn on the back of the paper, so they were reversed when I cut them out and glued them down).
I hope that was helpful. "
