I wish mine early experiments were good for something like this, but they are not, lol I love the unicorn, and the whole atmosphere of old celtic magic. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thank you! One reason for this is that I can't stand to discard an old painting, no matter how bad...so I often end up painting over all or part of them -- sometimes several times!"

I especially like the background, it has a magical look to it, as though the trees and plants are glowing with life. It has sort of an alice in wonderland feel in that respect. Composition wise it would be nice to see some plants or something along the sides to better frame the picture, I'm not sure what it is but something makes my eye wander outwards. Perhaps that was your intent though, anyway very good work overall, the unicorn is well sculpted. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thank you! I agree that composition is practially non-existent here. This is actually the fourth time or so that I've painted over this particular canvas, so it's become a sort of experimental "what can I do with it this time?" piece (though I guess that's no excuse for a bad layout). And the colors are great too. *swirly swirly swirly...eyes doing the funky spiral thing...goes and sticks head in cup of peppermint tea. Refreshing, but not helpful* Anyway...WONDERFUL FOREST. And I like the expression on the unicorn's face... And that movie (unless you meen the book?) was pretty trippy, especially that butterfly. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thanks very much. I'm glad you like it, despite the cliched theme. I was reminded more of the animation style of the movie than the descriptions of the book, but either way I still find it very Last Unicornish. "
| 20 Oct 2006 | Vicky A Beer | Loading...Love love love the style of this piece it's so vibrant and fun yet the unicorn looks so sad. You justa want to hug him and then dance about those funky trees. Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Thank you very much; I'm glad you like this one! " | |
| 6 Dec 2006 | Victor L. Castro | Loading...Hello again Sara, well I must say that I really like the trees, color, and foliage, in fact I would love to give this painting a 'thumbs up'! If it wasn't for your 'sick and macabre sense of humor'...I mean having that beautiful white horse impaled through it's head by some sort of object is just demented! P.E.T.A. is going to come looking for you... Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Heh, thanks Victor! PETA would probably be horrified by the contents of my studio, then. " | |

Well, keep it that way, I like it Sara Melissa Bean replies: "Well, it’s a similar one anyway. Thanks for all of the comments. I don’t think I have the energy to answer every single one, but I appreciate that you took the time to look at and comment on so many of my artworks."
